Michael Voß, after two years of work, released his first album under his own name on May 10, 2023 as an LP & digital download: DNABC - Some of my best friends are drummers The subtitle describes the bassist's personal relationship with the participating musicians, especially the role of the drums in the interplay and the groove as the heart of modern music. Stylistically, the music moves between groove, jazz and rock and contains improvisational elements. In addition to bands like "Brothers of Natya" consisting of Myléne Kroon and Jan Jesuthas on the first track of the LP "Parallels", the album features nine current bands and projects by Voß. There is modern jazz with Voß's long-standing band "Hotel am Pluto" consisting of Thomas Schweitzer on alto saxophone, Carsten Möller on electric guitar and Andreas Menke on drums. Funk and magical grooves are created in “Stream of Consciousness” with Christian Jung on drums, who in addition to the keyboards also contributed electric guitar to the title.“Helix” is a journey into the world of the Moog synthesizer with Carsten Saadhoff on drums and on the Moog synthesizer as well as Ruven Weithöner on the trumpet, Jörn Stölting plays keyboards. Modern grooves by Vito Lesczak on drums (long-time drummer of the Andy Bey Trio from NYC) and the Viennese Rainer Ochsenhofer on tenor saxophone find expression in “Mystic Corner”.The title “The Flow” with the versatile drummer Rudi Fischerlehner (Gorilla Mask) from Berlin lives up to its name. Once again, the electric guitar is played by Carsten Möller and keyboards by Jörn Stölting, both of whom are featured on several tracks. The funky number “74J” is a tribute to James Brown, with singer Myléne Kroon and also multiple contributors Thomas Schweitzer on alto saxophone and baritone saxophone, Carsten Möller on guitar, Jörn Stölting on keys and Jan Jesuthas on drums and percussion. The title “Berlin Bielefeld Wuppertal” naturally refers to the places of residence Wuppertal and Berlin, such as the pianist and keyboardist Matthias Scheffel and Oliver Steidle. (Awarded the German Jazz Prize in the “Drummer of the Year” category in 2022). Drummer Sarah Pletschko from Klagenfurt plays on “Orange Sunset”. Jörn Stölting (keys), Carsten Möller (guitar) and Ruven Weithöner can be heard again, the latter this time with the flugelhorn. Cover photography, layout and design of the LP is by Danny Kötter from Bielefeld.
